The Louisiana Bonsai Society is a club for people who grow bonsai here, in our heat and humidity, with our own bald cypress. Beginners are welcome at every meeting.

What a meeting is
Monthly meetings
We meet the third Tuesday of every month, seven to eight in the evening. There is a demonstration or a short talk, then time to work on your own tree.

Workshops and collecting trips
The society runs workshops on wiring, repotting and styling through the year. Members go out together to collect trees from the field when the season allows.

The show
Members bring their best trees to the club show. It is a chance to see years of work up close, and to ask the people who did it how.
When the club puts trees on public display, it is members explaining their own work, tree by tree, to people seeing bonsai up close for the first time.

Taxodium distichum grows wild across the state. Collected from the swamp and trained with the flat top an old cypress grows, it has become the tree Louisiana bonsai is known for. Members will show you how to keep one alive in a pot.
A meeting looks like this
We meet once a month. There is usually a demonstration or a workshop, then time to work on your own tree and ask questions. Bring a tree if you have one; come without one if you don't.

Membership is $25 a year for an individual, or $35 for a family. Dues are paid in person at a meeting; the site does not take payments. Members get the newsletter and the members area of this site.
